Default Generator start from what batteries?

Am I right, that the generator slide and start battery power comes from the coach batteries on a 94?

Not sure about yours. My '93 dosnt have a genny battery so start and slide power comes from the coach...

Do you have a battery in the gen fan compartment?

Hi Joe, no battery in the compartment. Mine must slide/start from the coach battery too. Thanks!

I wonder when the factory changed from a genny battery- to house and then back to genny. My 83, 88, and 97 had generator batteries. Interesting

Our 1988 WB has a generator battery for starting the 12.5 KW Kohler powered by the 4 cylinder Yanmar Diesel.

An auxiliary battery momentary switch on the lower dash can be depressed to combine the generator battery with the larger house/engine battery bank.

The link above will require study, but should be useful for troubleshooting and/or performing upgrades.

Ernie, my 01 has a separate generator battery but the aux battery switch does not tie it in, however this has never been an issue for me. Since there is a 110v receptacle in the generator compartment I always thought that a 2 amp charger would be the answer if anyone had issues with their generator battery losing charge

Perhaps this is moot, since the thread is a week old. My 85 FC has a battery, but something is wrong and it is not isolated properly. When the coach is parked, I remove the negatives from the main batteries to prevent discharge due to phantom loads, and the genny battery will go flat in about 36 hours.

Mike Putz, told me I need a new solenoid, but I haven't installed one yet. I know that once I fix the solenoid and can isolate the generator battery, I'll need a new battery. But until then...everything goes down the battery drain!

Mine does the same thing...I just added a disconnect for piece of mind.

Sounds to me as if the charging diode has gone bad in both these units.
Leroy has a great step by step write up on rebuilding that genny charging switch and Shane has directions on replacing the whole setup with new Blue Sea system somewhere here
