Default Jeep XJ Cherokee for sale

I have been fixing up an old Jeep for towing. Now that I have it ready, I just today bought another much newer toad that I can use as my everyday driver. So,

I have a 1999 Jeep XJ Cherokee Limited advertised for sale in the Knoxville area, and since it is ready to tow I thought I would throw it out on WOG just in case someone was interested.
4 wheel drive.
4.0L 6 cylinder.
Automatic.
185k miles.
Black with dark gray seats.
New radiator, flush, rad hoses, thermostat.
Rebuilt Dana 44 rear end.
New Smittybilt front and rear bumpers.
New Quadratec 9,000 lb. winch.
New Warrior Products roof rack.
New Goodyear Wrangler tires.
New 16" alloy wheels.
Leather seats, cruise, wood grain, Sony stereo.
Warrior Products adaptor for Roadmaster tow bar.
Tow brake/signal lights.

With all the $$ I have thrown at it, I need $6,500.

I will throw in my two cents on this Jeep. While I have not seen this particular XJ, I can speak from experience that they make a great toad. IMHO the best XJ is the 1999 year model. It has some of the best updates but avoids the latest smog equipment before production ended. The 4.0 liter engine, AW4 auto trans, the 231 or 242 transfer cases, is one of the best drive trains ever installed in a Jeep. In addition, a 1999 XJ did not come with a Dana 44 rear end. This is a very desirable upgrade. I can tell you I would not sell my 1999 XJ for the amount of money he is asking for this one. My wife and I really like our 99 Cherokee.

FWIW I have no financial stake in this vehicle sale.

Brad, it has a manual transfer case. Regarding the Dana 44, the Limited Edition model has a limited slip diff, which I have been thinking meant it had the Dana 44. But your statement that a 44 would have been an upgrade makes me need to go tomorrow and confirm for sure it is a 44.

Just remembered a couple of other things.
New Rough Country 1-1/2" lift, and new Rough Country shocks. Had various bushings, etc. replaced at that time too.

Yes, Rick the 231 and 242 transfer cases are manual selection/operation. The 231 is a little stronger, but the 242 has both full time as well as part time high range 4 wheel drive. Both cases have part time 4 wheel low range and a neutral. I have the 242 in mine. Both are very good boxes.

"Normal" rear end in a 1999 XJ is a Chrysler 8.25 rear. If it came with ABS then it would have a Dana 35. Mine has ABS and I replaced the Dana 35 with a Dana 44. Dana 44s were available in 1986-1988 Cherokees with the towing package. So I bought a junk yard 1987 Dana 44 and moved the sensors and tone rings to my Dana 44 and kept the ABS.

You have a nice XJ there.

Default Sold

Thanks for the clarification Brad. I didn't know what xfer case I had, so it appears I have the 242 since it has the part time 4wd available.

By the way, the vehicle has sold. Thanks to all those sending PMs concerning it.
