Default Window screens....

Well, my window screens all had holes in them interestingly enough, all behind the latch handles. I thought this was odd so after some research I concluded that when being opened, the thumb was being used to pull the latch and several of the fingers were pressed against the screen as a leverage point. That pressure or force on the mesh screen eventually stretched and then broke the screen fibers hence creating a hole.
Replacing the actual screen is rather easy with the proper tools.
First, it is a must to use replacement aluminum screen. Fibreglass screen is too thin.
The plastic rope I used was .140 diameter.
A screen rope roller is a must also. See picture 2
I found it easier to un-rivet the handle to create a complete flat surface to work from.
Do one side at a time carefully using the roller to push the screening down into the track. Then install the rope.
Complete all 4 sides first, then do the 2 rounded corners last.
Use a sharp box knife to cut the excess screen material off.
In order to avoid puncturing the new screen I made up some clear "finger guards" and riveted them between the frame and the latch handle. See picture 4
They work great as a push point when opening the screens.
Last picture is of the screen install man...
Hope this helps!
