Default Help with water bird

Hello everyone. I am new to the group. I am 37 and have been full timing for almost 2 years in. 91 Tiffin Open Road with my wife and three kids (4,5 &7). We purchased our rv for $3,500 and I repaired and upgraded almost everything inside myself to make it comfortable and usable full time. I have been interested in BBs for about 6 months and have just saved enough to get an 80's to 90,s model. I said all of that to say that I need some help with one that I am looking at that is a piece with a story. It has a salvage title due to fresh water damage. It's a great deal but will need many of the electronics replaced. I know nothing about drivetrains but I am very handy with everything else. It is about $20,000 savings. And would be a much nicer coach than anything else we could get for the money.

The main problem is the ZF trans works in rev and low only. The owner borrowed the push button control/computer from another bus and tested it in this one and it then shifted and worked correctly.

I expect inverter and other small electronics to be replaced and I think I can do that but not sure of the parts cost.

Also, my wife HATES Pink/Mauve interior. What are the options for changing that? Can it be painted and made to last and look good?
Here is a link on the bus: http://bit.ly/VVYEbE

Thanks for your help

this coach has been for sale for a long time.
If you look close you can see water in the upper dash gauges.
This coach was very wet.
I want to give you some advice.

RUN AWAY as fast as you can!!
Save your money (and maybe your marriage!) and buy a bird that has not taken a long bath..

this bus also had front end damage. He did some repairs. You can see some of it with the two side compartments being replaced.
Wiring hates water and these buses have major wiring.

As Randy stated this bird has been for sale for a long, long time maybe 6 years or more. About every 6-8 month it pops up on ebay or one of the other rv for sale sites. In my opinion it may not be good for parts. There are much better canidates to spend your money on. We're here to help so just tell us your budget and we'll help you spend it

Thanks a bunch guys. I feel like I dodged a bullet on this one. A friend went to look at it for me today and said it was probably 7 or 8 feet of water and it was moldy all over.

I spoke for about 30 minutes with this gentleman today http://newhaven.craigslist.org/rvs/4635026747.html
I saw it on the for sale thread and its barely in my budget. It seems he's has maintained this bus like nobody's business. Garage kept for 15 years. It seems like a good deal. The engine is a turbo. The only problem we have with this bus is it seems to not have a lot of storage for a full timing family but our budget will probably keep us in an older WL and we can make that work.

John, welcome to WOG. Sure happy for you on the save with that SP. In my opinion you could buy the best SP out there for what it would cost to make that one road worthy.

We will be glad to help spend your $ but let's do it smart.

Amen to doing it smart! Is $13,000 a fair price for the 83? I have an RV now that is fine I've just got the bug for a bus BAD. I could save for a bit linger if needed but that would be painful:/ lol
