That's how I made money for college. Working at Lynch Road Assembly, Detroit, Michigan where they were manufactured. I worked the stamping line. I believe our goal per hour was:

Door skins: 95
Hoods: 104
Fenders: 125

Unlike today's modern, clean, climate controlled factories this was anything but. It's the middle of summer, 100+ degrees inside, and deafeningly noisy. I'd sum it up as Neanderthal conditions. No robotics back then so every part had to be manhandled in and out of the 100 ton presses. Therefore you're handling, lifting each part twice. By the end of the summer I had pretty large bulked up arms. Remember these are parts for full sized cars not the comparatively compact cars we have today. All that for $7.10/hr.- big money back then. Time and a half in weekends, double time on holidays. Always tried to work those days. I was happy when September came and went back to school. All in all it was pretty amazing to start with bins and racks of parts and watch it all come together and eventually be driven out of the factory.
