Default Replacement string for window shades/info

Some of our shades are getting difficult to raise/lower. I figure the string is in worse shape on some than others depending one how often they are used. I also figure it is better to change it out before a string breaks.

I have been looking on here as well as on blind places (http://www.fixmyblinds.com/ and http://www.dirtyblindman.info/)
It appears to me that we have 4 different kinds of window coverings on our rig:
  1. Front window has "normal" mini-blinds
  2. side windows by driver and passenger has "normal" RV sun shades and block-out shades
  3. kitchen window has mini-blinds, but they are mounted more like the "normal" RV shades - that is, you raise and lower them along a mounted string
  4. Majority of windows have a Roman shade block-out shade with a lighter sun shade underneath. These are the ones I have the immediate need for.

Am I correct in thinking that the information online for replacing strings on RV day/night shades (like my #2) but won't work for my #4 shades?

For my #4 window coverings, would I just get the right weight/diameter of string from a household window supply store? (I think it is 1mm string)

Has anyone taken one of these window coverings down? Do you have to remove any of the cornice or cover over the top of the window to get them out?

Has anyone done the task and would be willing to chat with me about it?

I don't have pictures, but I have removed all of our blinds at one time or another.

Our blinds are held in with 3 screws each in the header metal piece, straight in from the bottom.

Let the blind all the way down, from the bottom look up toward the top of the blinds. You may have to gently move some of the material to see the screws.

I did not have to remove the valence.

Patti, the shades have several ways of stringing. Just find your pattern and you will see it is much simpler than your think. Some have the strings in the wood, our doors shade does. Some are strung to a metal piece at the bottom. Some have springs to maintain tension, just have to get right.
But the actually stringing , you just need a large upholstery needle to thread with, and you thread the whole section matched together. Simple and quick once you see how it is done.
I was lucky enough to have some of the string given to me at a rally, not sure where to buy it. But is you find a place, I would like to keep some on hand.

Timely subject. I need to fix our broken string in the pleated windshield shade. No clue that size the string is.

There is a roll of the string still floating around. But we probably need a couple more.

Randy, do you happen to remember what size that cord is. They list a dozen different sizes.
