Default Going into Canada

We have a trip planned into Canada in a couple of months and have started to research what we can and can not take in? We will be taking our cat and it appears food containing beef could be a problem. Has anyone had issues? On the subject of declarations, do you need to list all electronics, ie. GPS, laptops, iPads and phones? How about camera gear?

Taxes !! Wait until you check the beer prices! Real beer though
Cat needs rabies and vaccination certificate from vet (going either way). We take Rx pet food from vet. No problem.
No need to list anything. Need passports. (both ways). Might be idea to put couple metric marks on speedo. approx.. 100 at the 60 30 at the 50 etc.

Then have fun

Assuming $4.24 was CAD then it would "only" be around $3.50 USD.

technical point but valid,

"From CBSA " If you are a citizen of the United States, you do not need a passport to enter Canada. However, you should carry proof of your citizenship, such as a birth certificate, certificate of citizenship or naturalization, as well as photo identification. " But you will need a Passport Book (if traveling by air), or Passport Card (if traveling by land) to re-enter the United States, so the border agents will check that you have one to be able to re-enter the U.S."

So the requirement to carry a passport is so that Americans can re-enter their country.

You should visit the CBSA website, http://www.cbsa-asfc.gc.ca/menu-eng.html
this notice from the website..

2015-03-14 — Due to an outbreak of highly pathogenic avian influenza in certain U.S. states, all raw poultry and all poultry products and by-products that are not fully cooked, including eggs and raw pet foods, sourced, processed, packaged or shipped from the states of Kansas, Arkansas, Missouri, Minnesota, California, Idaho, Oregon and Washington are prohibited from entry into Canada until further notice. For more information visit the Canadian Food Inspection Agency Web site.

You should also visit the American website. http://www.cbp.gov

The last couple times I have crossed into the USA, American Customs are worried about rice being in original containers, or they will make you throw it out.

What Stephen said about guns, also tasers and mace, are prohibited.

Technically you do not need a passport to enter Canada, but the guy in the booth will ask for it so have it ready unless you want to find out how much trouble he can cause you. Been there done that, and I'm a Canadian.
