Default 30 Amp cord

Shortly after buying my bus I discovered that almost every campground we used had 50a service. I decided that with the large cord used for 50a service and a couple of adaptors, I would be good with either 30a or 50a. I bought a 30-50 and a 50-30 adaptor and left the 30a cords in the shop.

Today I saw a reason to throw one of those old cords back in the bird: campground said they had mostly 50 amp, but couldn't guarantee. Also they threw in that they did "not allow 30-50 or 50-30 adaptors." Ain't that great?

You know some of your stuff won’t work with just one 30 amp cord.

I use a 30 amp cord with a 50 amp bus end wired to both sides. So it is a discrete 30 to 50 adapter

Is it common that parks do not allow adapters?

No 50a I don't plug in. Had woes with 110 too often, 30a barely runs a ceramic heater with the normal bird loads.

It is not common, but some parks have had bad experiences and blame the adapters. Sometimes it may be a bad adapter or whatever But i have only seen one park that did not allow adapters, in California.

Interesting. We use them all the time in the marine world. When electricity isn't done right on boats, you get the added fun of frying everybody's sacrificial anodes and (possibly) drowning people. Always extremely tragic when it happens, and always boils down to poor maintenance and wiring habits.

If you guys are going to build your own cables, I generally find great deals on electronic components from either digikey or ebay.
