Officials with Resort Bear Creek Fire Department responded to a motor home fire at a KOA Campground, 1800 N. U.S. 31, about 6:53 p.m. Sunday, according to an email news release sent to the Petoskey News-Review by fire chief Al Welsheimer.

No one was living inside of the motor home, which is owned by a Harbor Springs couple, who live in it during the summer, according to the email. A neighbor reported the fire, Welsheimer said Monday. No one was injured. The 1989 Bluebird Wanderlodge motor home was a total loss, according to the email, and the owner had insurance. The home was valued at about $80,000 to $100,000, Welsheimer said Monday. Welsheimer said it is unclear what started the fire. A nearby structure sustained some heat damage, according to the email. Petoskey Department of Public Safety, Allied EMS and Michigan State Police assisted on the call. No further details were immediately available and an investigation is ongoing.

We met a couple this Saturday with an SOB who had all the Norcold recalls completed and they woke up at night with the coach on fire from the Norcold. Fire went up between the outside skin and the refer to the roof. Quick actions with fire extinguishers saved the coach that is getting a new roof this week.

Insurance investigators took the Norcold for testing. Can we spell, "product liability" subrogation?

Last year at RATS there was a coach with an automatic supression system in the refer compartment. THis site was the supplier. They make a unit with a remote head so you could mount the tank low and in sight and the sensor and discharge head high up in the refer compartment.

Not cheap, but it seems the refer is way up in the fire cause arena.

Gardner,

That was Bob and Gayle Van Dam's coach. We took some pictures of it at the RATS 2010 tech walkaround. The installation and simplicity of the system was impressive.

I bought one of these a year ago.
Just the one piece unit.
Mounted it in the fridge compt. facing the flame portion.
Cost was, if I remember about $160.
Gives me some piece of mind.
Have to do the engine compartment next.

Hi Ernie,
Sent you a PM on this.
For others, the place I got it was Rex Marine...www.rexmar.com.
I got the smallest, the 25 cubic foot model and the cost was $160 bucks.
A little piece of mind.

Y'all don't forget, the gentleman who sells these units will be at RATS this year not only selling them but also doing a seminar. Start saving your pennies now, I already know I am going to buy the small unit for my fridge compartment....

PS. Thanks to the suggestion and contact information from Gardner we were able to schedule this.
