We were also without water for the first 3 days and we are on city water. Our big transformers were blown down in the street and shattered...which is why it took so long to restore our power. Where is your daughter?

If your adjuster is using Xactimate software (most do) to price out your damage, you will get a fair settlement. You might ask him if he has the latest update, to the pricing database, which will pay more to allow for the increase cost of additional freight on material and the above normal costs to rent extra equipment and to pay overtime for the contractors employees.

As long as Xactimate is used and he includes every item damaged, you will get a fair settlement. Xactimate, slightly different but with the same price list, is what the majority of the larger contractors use to write their estimates.

If the contractor finds hidden damage, they should photograph it before repairing. Then they, or you, can contact your adjuster and request a supplemental payment. You are still owned for the damage when discovered.

In Florida each line item on the repair estimate may have depreciation subtracted. The depreciation will be returned to you after the item damaged has actually been repaired or replaced. That is, if you have replacement cost coverage, most do.

Thanks for the insurance tip. We aren't making a claim against our home...just the bird. The bird took the damage and saved the house. House only took a branch through the roof and broke a bathroom window.

Thanks! You guys are The Bomb! He is using the Xactomate program with the most current update and said he is going to get us a new roof and will see what he can do with our bird. Real nice guy from West Virginia. Crossing fingers. FEMA rejected us and the Auto policy wouldn't cover it so he is our last hope.
