Randy and Carol,

Sorry to hear this. Just as you were finihing getting her set up the way you wanted and this! Agrrrr. Shoot, I hope you had not gotten too attached to her. I know how that can be when we put a little of our soul into these coaches, they can be like pets.

Well, I hope the insurance co is fair and like Shane points out this is a great time to buy.

Of course the big news is no one was hurt!

NH Bill

Sorry to hear about the fire, it sounds like you have a volunteer fire department, were they eating doughnuts while you and John were fighting the fire? You sure had a nice looking coach, I hope you can get her back together soon. If not it's a good time to upgrade.

So sorry to hear of the fire. Hope the cause is found.

There is a related issue most bird owners may want to check. Our generator slide had been removed by the pros and reinstalled. Recently I noticed the battery cables connecting the generator slide to the coach side wall were installed loose, fatiguing the connectors at the wall each time the slide moved. I repositioned them and strapped them to roll as I thought they masy have been originally, and had to make a bracket to guide them to keep them from catching on the generator equipment.

At RATS we looked at a few others, and found the way the cables should have been routed on Randy's generator, nicely rolling with the motion of the slide. One of the coaches had them loose like mine, eventually fated to break at the connectors. Worth checking.

Shocking Randy. I know you are sick to your stomach. If there is anyone I know that could "hit the ground running" to recuperate from such thing, it is you. Good luck with the insurance co.

A side question; has anyone ever tried to open one of the emergency exit windows? With such a fire up front, and the circumstances and timing being a bit different, I can envision the one in the bedroom being used.

(leaving for Chicago and Iown tomorrow, but only AFTER I buy another one or two fire extinguishers!)

Randy, Roberta, Lee and I are very sorry to hear of your fire. I'm sure you have the ability to repair, or cause to have repaired any damage your
coach has suffered. Sometimes it's the decision of which way to go that's the hardest. Your a smart guy and will figure out your best move. Glad you guys are OK.

Randy,
We haven't met yet but I feel like I know you. It really sucks to have that happen to your Bird. Glad you and Carol and the house are OK.
As for looking for the cause, I agree with Bob Janes (post #18) That looks like where the fire got the hottest and that is what Arson investigators look for as the starting point of the fire.

I just went out to check our '95. We are in Florida at the moment. In the bay where Randy had the fire everything was normal EXCEPT on the front wall of that compartment, up high, there is a big, fat, relay labeled 200 amp 12volts. The coil portion of the relay was too hot to keep my fingers on. That does not seem normal to me for a 12 vdc relay. Anyone know what this relay is for and how hot it should be? Others, please check yours and let me know. I am really nervous about that after Randy's tragedy.
