Default Refrigerator Decision

We are parked in Austin for a few weeks helping support a sick family member. As luck would have it, our Dometic refrigerator has called it quits. I know most owners have chosen to change out a Dometic with a Samsung residential unit, but haven't decided at this point what to do. I have a local RV company that's offered to rebuild the refrigeration loop with a new Dometic system for $2,500 and another company in Pipe Creek has offered to do a total Samsung replacement with cabinet mods for $4-5,000. Appreciate input from others on what they've done. Currently leaning toward the rebuild idea which can be done in place.

Eric, Those prices for a Samsung is way too high. I think the unit is less than 2000. Remove the old unit and the shelf it sits on. Install the new house frig then enjoy a trip to Pea Ridge and have Tim at RV Interiors and more build you a custom, Factory looking cabinet to go on top. Tim will also finish out the install with very nice mill work trim. I think it was around 500 bucks for him to do this job for us.

Here is what I did: I ordered the Samsung online, and had it delivered to Tim in Arkansas. That cost me $950. Tim removed my old Dometic and installed the new Samsung, His charge for that was $800. Plus some minor costs for parts and supplies. Looks great, was cooling much better than my old Dometic.

I installed a new Samsung in an American Eagle. Fits like a glove. As soon as this Amana quits- it will get the Samsung

Eric

I put a Samsung in my M 380 and my Dometic was still working somewhat, and it was one of the best things I did. I would use a cooler with ice till I got to Pea Ridge. Someone familiar with Coaches it is a piece of cake.

Thanks for the feedback. Sounds like the only good choice is a Samsung installed by this fellow in Arkansas. Anyone have contact info for him? We are currently using a small 4 cu ft Magic Chef refrigerator/freezer unit we got at Home Depot for $200 and getting by. Good temporary choice for anyone dealing with unexpected loss of their fridge!
