Question What is the old Kohler worth?

I have bought a Westerbeke to replace the Kohler. Some of you may have followed my trials with the generator & know I was never happy with it, particularly the noise it makes.

I bought a new 10KW ST type generator head & installed it so I could make the trip to Mobil. It worked OK except it's LOUD & it would not start the front AC for some reason. It started the other 2 fine & ran everything else.

Anyway, I am selling it. What's it worth? Not trying to make a killing here but the copper is worth probably 3 or 4 hundred now...

The Perkins starts & runs fine. The front main seal leaks. The starter & the 10KW generator head are new. I used them one trip. It is showing 2538 hours.

It came out of the 'Bird so it will have to have a frame built if it is to be used in something else. No radiator, mine was remote mounted & I'm keeping it. I do have another Kohler radiator I would throw into the deal if someone wants it. NO muffler, no air cleaner. No 12V alternator either, don't know if it came with one.

What price should I put on it?

TOM

Tom,

Kohler issues sound pretty standard leaks and all.

IMHO... If the unit looks clean and not candy coated with a paint bomb or as they say an "overhaul in a can" job and you could start it for a potential buyer I would put the value at about $800.00. Hope this helps!

Sure, opinions are what I was looking for.... I was hoping for about $50,000 but I guess that's not going to happen in this economy...

Have a look on EBay, there was another there from a Wanderlodge. That might give you a place to start.

If I remember correctly that was close to what I got for my old Perkins/Marathon.

Tom,

You just need to propose a gov'ment study on the effects of Perkins diesel exhaust on the mating and nesting habits of the "Northern Egret" or some such bird there on the Little Maple Dam Branch!! They've got plenty of cash!!

You reckon I could fashion a back up generator to run freezers and a few lights at my house? If so, I could get interested. What about shipping? Where is it?

I don't see why not. I run my house on a 6KW (it's a little house! ).

The genny is IN THE WAY at my shop on the Eastern shore of Maryland right now. I don't know about shipping. It is HEAVY!! Probably cost more than it is worth but I go down to Virginia periodically to visit so I could meet you or I might bring it down to Georgia if I can get away from work.

I am open to suggestions.......
