Default Finn's Inn Express on a six month tour

Today I started my six month tour out to the west coast and then back to Key West and points in between before returning to my homebase in South Carolina in April 2015. I stopped and got the 'Bird and trailer with the Jeep inside weighed to see how much difference there was in the weights compared to having one of the VW Rabbits in there, it was pretty much what I expected and also it still gives me a little cushion on the gross trailer weight and the rear axle on the 'Bird. Here is the weight ticket along with the trailer weight sticker and the label for my 'Bird.
.

.
The difference between the weights with the VW and the Jeep in the trailer are DRIVE AXLE +560#, TRAILER +1080#, TOTAL GROSS +1640#.
I'm spending the night at the Wal Mart campground in Thompson, GA.

Interesting weights. You are within spec.
Have a good trip. Maybe we will see you out west after Christmas.
Take care.

Mike,

On the rolling hills of western South Carolina on I-20 I had the propane on and the pyrometer never got above 920° @ 17# of boost pressure and that was only for a very short time, the hills are steep but not real long, engine temperature remained in the 190-195 range with an ambient temperature of 95°, the engine is running great. The worst of the hills for this area are over with so no need for the propane injection for a while.

Later on today I will visit with a friend of mine Len Hoffman that moved his machine shop Hoffman Automotive Machine Inc. to a new for him facility in Watkinsville, GA. Len did the work on the head of the 16 valve engine in my Wabbit race car and his dad Richard built the engine. I will try to then make it over to the Wal Mart campground in Madison, GA to ride out the line of severe thunderstorms that are due to roll through this area later today.

What's the rush, first a free meal as Len bought lunch today and there were no Wal Marts on I-20 between Columbia, SC and the Georgia state line I didn't use the propane injection today and did encounter some steep hills when I headed north off of I-20 and without the propane it has a noticeable drop in power but I still didn't have to downshift as I used to do with the old NA, I'm not going to throw darts at the old NA engine it served me well and took me to a lot of places, with just a little more effort involved.

I dodged the Bullitt with the severe thunderstorms that crossed Georgia today, with just some heavy rain but I will still stay in Madison for the night as there are still storms to the south of here where I'm going, I'm only few hours away from Ed's anyway.

Unfortunately Chap, I took the bypass around Madison, but I have been through it before and it is truly a beautiful town for sure, I love the old homes.
