Default Height Measurements of 'Birds

John:

I really didn't get to thank you and your measuring team (I was busy looking after the hawg meat program) but I am really grateful. I have never known the height of my bird and that ignorance caused me some stress last summer when I had to go under a RR overpass that was 13'6".

You have given all of us peace of mind and I already have a placard made up, adding the extra six inches and will paste it on my dash overhead.

Thanks a million!

John
Just curious as to what your Bird measured as we have similar coaches. I DO still plan to take my own readings and not rely on yours of course, just curious
thanks!

Take a look at post 1 of this thread. Several BBs like yours. John had posted he was unable to measure his.

Cheryl Hintsala sent me a couple of pictures that I have combined together here that shows THE CREW with Thomas Rembert holding the measuring stick while John Hintsala up on the roof has placed the cross bar on the highest point on his 'Bird and then Dick Gideon recorded the final measurement of John and Cheryl's 2001 LXI that had a height of 12' 4", they would then add 6" to that figure making there safe height at 12' 10" to allow for suspension movement and pavement irregularities when they go under low structures. I would still be cautious even going under a structure that is marked at 12' 10" just in case the highway department has repaved under it and forgot to change the indicated height of the structure, I just don't take anything for granted.

I would also be extra cautious when going under any structure where the pavement is going down hill on one side and then going right back up on the other, especially if the structure is close to your safe height.

Thanks John for owning and sharing your measuring pole. The information was worth it.

Thanks for the opportunity to work as a volunteer on the "First Annual Measuring Crew".

Thomas, the stick man, could have used a break, but the task was accomplished without too much in the way of complaints.

Without exception, every coach measured was "Standing Tall".

I had been wondering, do Wanderlodges lose some height as they approach the 'golden years'? Maybe yes, maybe no.

Thanks for letting "Annie" be the model. Nice to know our exact height. No more guessing and worrying.
