Thanks Don for the post. I am just down the road on Boulder Highway and just heading out on my trip tomorrow for Vancouver, good timing.

Graham, I'd head up today and fill up. It may hit 4 bucks by tomorrow. There's a station here in Overton that was 3.69 in the morning and 3.99 at dinner time.

Go fill up now.!!

We are re-thinking our Alaska trip this summer. It has been a dream since we got our coach in 2002. Set funds aside for the trip and everything. We've done some upgrades and now the Jake brake installation so we'd be comfortable and safe. Even now carry a 12 gauge pump for bear protection. BUT, these fuel prices MAY curtail our trip. We're still hopeful though. We'll make a decision in late April.

We've been to every state now except Washington, Oregon and Alaska. We will do Northern CA, Oregon and Washington when the weather warms up. Then we'll see about Alaska. 3.49 or so, we can still do it. Much higher would be tough.
Anyone know what diesel costs in Alaska?
FWIW Don, you may want to carefully consider bringing a firearm across the border into Canada.
As I understand it, if Customs finds it you will have to surrender it to them.

Not that easy for us east coasters. The most direct route crosses into Canada around Minnesota, then at least half the trip is through Canada before getting to Alaska. At $4/gallon, 8500 miles roundtrip, 7mpg, that's abut $5K just in fuel. Make that $5/gallon, and its more like $6K. And I'm sure prices in Canada aren't any cheaper than here. That's pretty daunting right there, and as others have said, will turn people off from these kinds of trips and others in general. Luckily my long summer trip this year isn't completely cross country like last year. I'm guessing in 2 years when its election year, prices will come down again, so I'm planning my last cross country trip to hit California and surrounding states for then!

Don, Please don't open that can of worms here. We really don't want to get into a tyrade about what you can and can not take across the border. If you have any questions call me. I've done it for the last 10 years. There are certain classifications and restrictions but it can be done. You just have to make sure you dot all the i's and cross all the t's. research & comply & have this form filed out & with you Your SG has to be in a locked hard sided case with a seperate triggger lock on the ****** and the ammo has to be in a seperate locked case, stored in a different area. If you can comply you can carry, if not like Jim said you might make a contribution to the Customs/Border Patrol Defense Program .

I am seeing $4.39 as the lowest around Walnut Creek and Pleasanton, CA (east SF Bay) area. I can always find higher. ;-)

If you have a SmartPhone, download from an apps store apps like GasBuddy or FuelFinder. While on the road, you can find the best locations for diesel price. It is not always the truck stops especially since Flying J converted to Flying F-YOU J.

You did well Don. I paid $3.85 at the TA Travel Centre in Las Vegas when I left a week ago this past Sunday (Feb. 27). I knew it would be over $4.00 in California so I just bit the bullet and filled up.

Rolling through Anderson South Carolina this afternoon on my way to Asheville, I filled up @$3.699.

I remember balking at it in St. Pete when it went to $3.09 a little while back. Ha, thatel learn me!

I looked up our local Love's Fuel today it is 3.78 in Memphis, Indiana and in Shepherdsville, Ky it is 3.88, about 30 miles apart. In Quartzsite, AZ it is $3.96, I'm glad my tank is full.
