Caterpillar 3208 Solutions This sub-forum is hosted by Mike Hohnstein who has been at this kind of thing for 50+ years now, guess I'm addicted. The saga has been all about progressively larger shop space since then. Honestly, never wanted to get into the CAT 3208's that were originally considered to be a throwaway engine but that's all that works in a FC in my world. Same thing with my Ford toter, that came with a NA, too much effort to hang in a 6, so been at it with the CAT V-8 for 20 years now. In reality you can get excellent life out of a CAT 3208 if it's built correctly. Post your questions about the CAT 3208 engines here and Mike will try to help you out.

Default 3208 Turbo Anaroid (Fuel Ratio Control) issue

Listen to Mike H., Listen to Mike H.
On our run from Florida to our home in Michigan, Our 3208 ran great, about 1000 miles into the trip, it was running so well, it would not shut down.
Stumped the choices were to let it idle all night, or continue on driving.
We were tired, it was dark, and a threat of snow in Michigan.
Idle turn the key, increase revs turn the key, after several tries it finally shut down. Fortunately we have a fuel shut off solenoid. After replacing it, the 3208 would not start. Usually solenoids fail in the default mode meaning no start.
Really stumped now, we had just shut down a perfectly good running 3208T.
We had to make calls to our WOG Friends.
"Take that Anaroid off and throw that thing out the window *#@#*#"
"Don't Ya read the posts."
Yikes! I must have read the posts years ago because I had the plate to cover the hole.
Our trusty 3208 still runs great and now it even shuts down.
The anaroid supposidly helps with fuel ratio, it's a diaphram with a stem that hooks into a fork, But if it defective it can fail in the no start or no shut down position.
So, all you 3208 owners listen to Mike H, and support his business.
Many thanks to Randy and Mike H. We are home safe, including a free repair on the road.

Thanks for writeup Bill... Although the uncensored version of your conversation with Mike H. was funnier.

Hi Bill, glad you made it safely home. My new engine has no anaroid and as Mike has always said it makes the coach more "drivable" you can however over fuel it so watch for smoke

I always wondered what that thing was. What did you use for a cover?

I've done yoga in that position many times as well!

No fuel should be in the fuel solenoid or Anaroid hole, if so there are other problems, just atmosphere.
I still need to make a gasket or use silicone for a dirt seal. I had a steel plate.
"Aluminum should be OK, Just trace out the shape,
replace long bolts with shorter bolts". Info from Mike H.

Glad to hear you made it home safely Bill. Just put a pipe plug in place of the hose @ the manifold end ?

Couldn't you just cut the stem off and bolt it back down?
