Saturday I put my friend Shane to the challenge of installing the new pro-sine inverter. I had done some of the preliminary labor in that I had run cables and wires from the monitor panel locations. I also has a 110 line from the pro-sine location to the original PAC 500 (which was removed). Shane worked about 8 hours (with a lunch break Gardner stopped by) and we ended up with a very nice installation. I have to learn the functions but I can tell already this is a huge step up in inverter charging performance.
One thing noted was that 3 or the 6 of my batteries was not grounded so they were not functioning. This might easily explain why my battery reserve was so low. I don't know if I accidentally removed a cable while installing my cut off switch or it is was like that when I bought it. Regardless never overlook the obvious. At Maxton Shane is going to supervise me, but I will do the labor of making up some heavy cables for the batteries. That should button up the battery deal hopefully. Look forward to the rallies end of this month and learning and helping others any way I can.

John,
That sounds like a real nice upgrade. It's on my "long" list of things to do. I think your pac 1500 was in the same location as mine is. Now that you've broke the ground on this I'll be taking pictures and notes on how you did it! Did you power all your AC receptacles off the inverter? Hopefully I'll see you in Maxton!

Hi John,
Good deal! I put in a prosine 2k in my '87pt40. Managed to fit it in the charger bay near the batteries so didnt have to run the large cables to the bay where the PAC1500 was. It was a tight fit but seem to work OK. /Joe

Tom, No I didn't change what the PAC 500 was running. Two reasons. First I am pretty satisfied with what the original unit rans. I have two TV's a couple recepticals and the drapes. I don't know what else I would want to run off of the house batteries. Shane said that it would not be difficult to add to. (Of course that would be more meaningful if I would have said it since Shane would have to do it or at least very closely supervise)
Today, using aluminum sheet I boxed in under the pro-sine location to isolate the pro-sine and to water-proof the compartment immediately behind the tag axle wheel. There are some relays and ofter electronic connections down there and Shane was surprised that I didn't have issues since that area was definitely not sealed very well. It is now. I may have to get some type of fan or ventilation for the pro-sine as it is right off of the engine compartment and heat may be an issue. I will be at Maxton and Myrtle Beach as well. My project is to up grade the battery cables and to install a master battery cut off switch. Seems like that is the "thing to do" at Maxton. Did that last year on the Napper.

John,
I think I mis-understood at first what you did. Now I think I get it. You basically got rid of your battery boilers and pac 1500 inverter and replaced them with the pro-sine to do the job they both were doing? So now you have basically the same inverter functions and a 3 stage battery charger?

Fellows, since it's all relative, if not for short people there wouldn't be any tall ones. I have a friend who is of about my height (5'6") who said one time in my presence when the subject of height came up that "some people have height and others have length" . I have no idea what he meant by that so perhaps it's relative perhaps not. At this point in life none of it seems to matter much to me. As long as I can reach the gas and brake I guess I have enough of both.
