Question Drive shaft balancing

Anyone out there have their drive shaft balanced?

Considering having our balanced to cut down on the excessive vibrations in the kitchen area and the excessive wear on the drive line as a result of the shaking. We have driven 3 busses and this one vibrates quite a lot as compared to the the others, so we suspect there is a balancing issue. Not sure where to even take it for such a service or what to expect.

Your driveshaft was balanced when new.
Before i jumped the gun on the balance i would check the ujoints and the carrier bearings.
Take the shafts out, take the joints apart and inspect them, feel the carrier bearing,or replace it.
Clean the drive shafts and paint them.

Thanks Randy. He's still thinking it's related to the retarder that might be out of whack. The vibration is in the same area as the retarder. I have to dismantle the cooktop to keep the top from making too much noise. Even the bus door rattles.

Balancing the driveshafts will not fix the retarder bearings.
I think the only place that can do that for you is Mike Hs shop in Wis.
He has the plan on that, not cheap, but he can fix it.

I had a major vibration after a tranny swap on my old FC and it turned out to be bad bearings in a U joint. The incompetent shop messed them up re-installing them. I loved the retarder in my 83 FC.

Two other things that can cause vibration. Phasing of drive shaft. This is where Both yokes at end of drive line needs to be inline. Another thing is Yokes on input shaft can't have any give or play. Both of these will make your teeth rattle.

A bad bearing in a U-Joint can resonate throughout the entire drive train. You might want to check them all. I had that issue and once we discovered it was the rear u-joint the vibrations reduced drastically once we replaced the unit.
