Caterpillar 3208 Solutions This sub-forum is hosted by Mike Hohnstein who has been at this kind of thing for 50+ years now, guess I'm addicted. The saga has been all about progressively larger shop space since then. Honestly, never wanted to get into the CAT 3208's that were originally considered to be a throwaway engine but that's all that works in a FC in my world. Same thing with my Ford toter, that came with a NA, too much effort to hang in a 6, so been at it with the CAT V-8 for 20 years now. In reality you can get excellent life out of a CAT 3208 if it's built correctly. Post your questions about the CAT 3208 engines here and Mike will try to help you out.

I wouldn't be jumping to build the "Injector pump assembly" yet. If you think you may have a "nozzle" leaking or opening to soon...just pull the valve cover, remove the line at the pump assembly and all the line braces involved.(take pictures) Once that line is removed you can remove the pass-thru that connects to the nozzle. make sure you brace with another wrench at each line removable..except at the the injector pump. After you have removed the bolt or bolts holding the nozzle in place you will have to carefully pry up up the nozzle to remove it. You can take it to Yancey Bro. Cat. Call to see if they can test.In you pict of the recor the cylinder looking thing with the wires is you lift pump. the red wire running to it has a loose lead that could short out against the door when closed and check those wires for power. You have a bit of cleaning up to do back there to insure good fuel delivery. Also with that pump the pressure is only about 5psi. so you don't have to get crazy. Pump rebuild is 2500.00 at the Cat house....so it should be a last resort. Call Mike Hohnstein if you think you need a Injector pump assembly...he is the resident expert on the kittys.

After belts and fluids, the valves probably need adjustment. As for the injection pump, Get the engine running and then see if the injection pump needs attention. If you find an injector blowing air, then leave it disconnected and run the engine-it will run on seven cylinders. If I had known all of this when my coach left me stranded I could have saved the tow charge and gotten the last 5 miles to home. I used R & M Diesel in Albany for my injection pump repair with good service. Injectors are available at Yancey bros. off or I-20 outside of Six Flags. You will need the arrangement number and serial number off of the rocker arm cover to order injectors. I am in Woodstock and would be glad to drive there if I can be of any help.
