I am a jack of all trades and master of some. Radiators and other things that beat the **** out of me removing for repair must go to a shop! Murphys law says that if you fix something yourself that took you 2 weeks to remove, it will fail! Sorry about the hassle. Some things are just a pain the butt. Generator radiator isn't such a massive undertaking but I still take that stuff to a shop no matter how good my brazing skills are.

Trip Report. Antioch, Ca to San Antonio Tx. We went to Texas to be with family for Thanksgiving - first time I have not done the cooking in about 35 years!

We left Antioch and caught I-5 outside of Tracy, Ca. Towing our Honda CR-V helped keep our speeds reasonable - it has a 65mph top flat-tow speed. I can report that hitting 72 while passing did not make the car explode. We drove down I-5 to the Tejon pass rest stop, pulled in and went to sleep with the alarm set for 2 AM. At 2, we spun things up and comfortably drove through the L.A. area arriving at the Morongo Indian casino where we parked and slept for several more hours. Fixed some chow and headed for Tucson where we stayed the night at the Lazy Days KOA. BTW - cheapest diesel near Quartzite is the shell station just East of Eherenberg AZ. Price was $3.70 / gallon. If you go there, make sure to use a big rig pump. The regular diesel pumps are painfully slow. I spent over an hour pumping before giving up. We stayed in Tucson one night, then made for VanHorn Tx for another overnight. Made it to San Antonio the next day. The trip back was pretty much a mirror image of the ride out except we spent two nights in Tucson and visited family. I made a point of checking fuel efficiency and we were one RRCH over 6 mpg at 65 mph. That is without running the genny. The only issue with the bus was loosing a bit of coolant - about a gallon on each side of San Antonio - which was maybe why the radiator cap on the surge tank was missing when we bought the bus. I think maybe the 7 psi is helping a pinhole leak somewhere do it's leaking thing. I loosened the cap and will be looking for the leak this winter workup.
Generally running about 160 degrees with the fan override always on ( if we don't the bedroom gets very warm ) 7 psi boost on level ground at 65 with up to 20 psi boost on uphills. Going south on the grapevine we had no traffic slowing us down and managed 55 or so except on the steepest sections where our low speed was 38 mph.

All in all a very good trip except too much driving and not enough camping, but this was a "go visit family" trip with time constraints rather than a mosey along and enjoy the country trip. I kept thinking how happy I was with how the bus was running, though I was careful never to say it out loud. One should never tempt trouble!

I just saw this, nicely done! Looks great
