Default Auxiliary water pumps

Hi everyone. Just purchased an 84 PT40... It has 2 auxiliary water pumps that I assume are for the chassis heat... Should they be running at all if the switch in the front is on "summer"?? 1 is running with the switch on summer and is leaking.

One is controlled by the Aux pump switch on the overhead dash panel and circulates water through the chassis heaters. The other is controlled by the dash heat switch on the lower dash and circulates water through the dash heater core.

That's correct. The pumps on my '86 are Groco CP 20 BB. Probably the same on your '84. You can rebuild them. You can do a quick search and find pumps and kits several places.

The rebuild kits are about $64
Don't ask how I know
Easy to rebuild

So I have the top switch on summer and the auxiliary pump switch off.. I also have all the dash heat swtiches off I think they are labeled as "front heat"... The top pump still runs when the motor is running tho.. Bad ground??

Does the SP have auxiliary water pump(s) for any of its systems? I don't see any of the switches as described above... '91 sp36.

I just replaced my [primary] water pump outright, a few days ago. Its pressure switch had failed. Might just keep the old one as spare...

You might have a switch for the AUX PUMP in the overhead dash. At least that is where mine is located.

Some time ago I asked the question "Why can't you turn the pump over?"
Seemed to me it would give you more space to work. No one had an answer so I went to the manufacturer's website and guess what? The makers only showed the pump in the horizontal position.
In my mad mind that meant that vertical up or down was unimportant.
So I moved it.
