Default 15,000 foot pass,in a wanderlodge,will it do it?

Heres a note from our friend in Chile,to me,asking the question.

Hi Randy I’m thinking about crossing the Andes to Argentina in the north of Chile. The pass is a little over 15,000 feet. Do you think our coach could make it? Cat 3208 Thanks Eric

Should be able to kinda guess if you know the weight and if it's got a turbo or not? 15k is no joke.

Can he do it?
Will he be the first wanderlodge to go over that pass?
will that be a world record for the highest road driven by a wanderlodge?
Would i like to be riding in the right seat?

I think,if he does not stop, keeps the bus geared down in 1st gear (above 10,000 feet),keeps the rpms up,he can do it.
watch the temps, maybe run a spray bar to the rad and one into the air cleaner, spray some water on the cac and rad,he will be fine!

What do you guys think?

SP 36,turbo 3208,300hp with CAC.
5.29 gears.
If the road is not too steep and he maintains speed,he can do it.

Yeah it will move at that elevation, the grade is critical though.

I think he can do it, it will be slow on that last 5K feet for sure.

That's not my concern, he has to come down the other side......

I would say he should check on the regular busses running that route for advice. From what I've seen in other areas of CA and SA retired US school buses are recycled and used for decades...I'd be willing to bet a lot of CAT 3208 have made that run...slowly. Watch the heat going up, and have your retarder and brakes working on the way down.

Highest we have been is 9500' ASL...really did not notice the altitude as much as the grades affecting the performance of our coach. I could feel the difference though...I do not think I could function at 15K without supplemental O2.

The link i posted says only 200 cars per year travel the road.
It did not mention commercial traffic at all.
It also said if your a sissy don't try it.
(yes,it said "sissy")

I personally don't consider myself a "sissy" , but i am out on that one . I'm not driving Black Bear Pass in the Jeep either , but that's just me . I think the highest cliff around here is the river bank .....
