Default Generator

I’m missing something here. Went to exercise the generator today. It started and ran just fine. I turned on the overhead air conditioning to give it a workout. Nothing on any air conditioners. Switch is set to generator, overhead is switched to “summer”.

A/C work on shore power. Block heater, charging power both lights lit on shore power. Out on generator power. Ammeter shows a slight discharge when generator is running

In order to avoid a long and costly divorce, this does NOT need to be generator problems.

What else can I test?

Stick is the fan running on the generator, when you ran it? If not it could be it isn't making 120v power. If it is it could also be a transfer switch issue or a even a voltage regulator on the genny. You may need some help diagnosing it.

That might be the understatement of the year.

Check the breakers up on the firewall next to the generator tray (passenger side)- make sure they are "ON"..Then, confirm that the cooling fan is running (it will not run with the breakers off)...Then, get your checkbook out.

Since you dodged a bullet with the tranny (can we still call it that?) a few months ago, the Fades of Fort Valley are still trying to extricate the Benjamins trapped in the sepulcher beneath your porch steps.

Does your year coach have switches near the driver's seat to turn on the air conditioners, if so are they on?

Thanks, Nancy. I’ve gone over everything I can think of. Got to get it fixed before BATB and Maggie Valley

Stick, your best shot is the breakers in the compartment Shane mentioned.

If its not the breakers its going to take some work to get it fixed, as its most likely the voltage regulator, brushes and slip rings or even windings. My buddies generator just died and I believe its going to be one of those last 3 issues. From what I hear you can get the parts to repair the generator if the windings are in good shape. The slip ring assembly sounds like it has been known to be weak and fails. Hope its just the breakers.

Check out this post, will let you know what you are in for:

If the gen isn't making 120v it would not stay running. Once the engine starts the fuel cutoff is held by 120v.

Is it possible that you have an electric heater thermostat turned on? Those electric heaters are on the same circuit as the A/C's, and the breaker in the main panel will flip if you have both running.
