Unhappy Diesel fuel in oil ISL 400 Cummins

On the way back from B@B I noticed fresh oil spray on the toad, so I checked the breather tube and was getting an oil vapor. I found a level spot and checked the oil and was over full. I changed the oil in Wallmart lot and came on home, left it at Worldwide Equiptment in Abingdon Va. Gained about 3-4qts of oil by the time I got here. They are going to run it with some dye to see if they can find where it is leaking. Going over in the morning to see if they have done anything. I will post the progress and the problem as I get info. The engine ran fine all the way back. I was gaining about a qt. every 100 miles or so.

I had fuel dilution on a Cummins in one of my boats and it was a bad injector dripping fuel.

Good luck

My ISL started 'making oil' on the way home from Colorado last year. Probably around 145000 miles on engine. Big mess all over the back of the bus. Turned out to be the fuel pump. Very expensive. Hope yours is something simpler and cheaper.

Unhappy

Worldwide Equiptment finally got the M380 in the shop and ran dye in the fuel and checked all the lines and injectors, no fuel leaks found. They are going to double check before they drop the oil pan and pressurize the fuel Line and see if it is coming from the pump. Sounds like it could be in the pump, much more exspencive than a line. Will update as soon as they do this, probably Monday.

Don
The coolent level was staying full, and the oil was black and thinner, no milky color. The blow by stopped after I changed the oil and put the right amount in it. Seams like blow by starts at about a gallon over full.

Just wanted to check. If it is the pump, make sure there is a full warranty on it (it will be a rebuilt). Current Cummins list is $3800. So far I've had 5 of them installed in ISLs, two in an SOB and 3 in my M380. That's two occurrences, but needed 2 one time and 3 the other to get a good one. With the three bad ones it took 90 miles for one to go bad, 150 miles for the next, and instantly bad with the third.

The good one in the SOB did 30K miles before I sold it, and the last one in the M380 has about 4000 miles so far, so I know there are good ones out there.
