Default Exhaust wrap

Is there any advantage to wrapping the exhaust pipes from the manifolds to the muffler? On my 8V, the one comes over the top of the engine, just under the bed. There sure seems to be a LOT of pipe in the engine compartment.

Seems like wrapping might keep the engine compartment a little cooler? Maybe not.

Anyone done it? Results? Worth it?

I did it on my Cummins. Exh manifold. Turbo and all the way down to the entrance to the muffler.
Makes a lot of difference on the heat level in the bedroom I'm sure it helps prolong the life of all the wiring in the engine bay also.

I got mine from ATP in California. Good folks. Good product. Not cheap but worth the money. IMHO

Melvin
I did mine with 3000 degree ceramic wrap
Works great
I can drive all day pop the engine door open and place my hand on the exhaust pipe without fear of getting burnt, it's very warm but will not burn you
Lowered BR temp considerably
Fair warning non stainless systems may be prone to rusting out prematurely

Why not mount an electric radiator cooling fan on the battery door to draw out the heat, set it up on a thermostat to run until it cooled down enough. Wrap might help some but I think a fan would be better.

I haven't wrapped our engine.
Did what Shane suggested and put an electric fan on the battery side of the engine compartment.
Works great!!
A lot cheaper than the rap also..
Sometimes, down here in Arizona, the fan would come on when the temps got over 100.
Great addition to the heat problem.

Wrap cuts down on radiant heat... And sound.

I would only wrap stainless or ceramic coated as the pipe can rot out faster in steel.

That is why I was seeking stainless exhaust.

The heat kept in the pipe will make the turbo spool faster

My 85 6-92 is covered/wrapped from the heads to the muffler, looks original. Not stainless, and the pipes are still sound. This moves a lot of heat out the tail pipe that would otherwise radiate into the engine compartment.

Am also considering a fan on the rt side to blow cool air into compartment when parked. would control it with a timer to run a set time after parked.

I added the radiator fan and wired in an adjustable clixon near the turbo so it can operate either on auto or manual as well as drawing air out or blow in to cool the engine while removing the heat when shutting down.
Control wiring is in the inverter compartment next to the battery access hatch.

Hope this helps as it sure cools the bedroom as well as assisting while driving as I have it on inflow all the time.

Very nice Barry.

Melvin, I had wrap. Removed it to check for corrosion, and just never bothered putting it back on with the exception of a section close to my inverter/charger. Frankly, I have not had enough additional heat in the bedroom to have noticed it. I am sure it is hotter, just haven't noticed it. Maybe floor plans are different. Whether you wrap or not the aux fan upgrade is worth it, which I hope to do soon.
