Default Genny Radiator Cooling Fan

After noting that the genny was running a little warm, checked the fan and found that it was not running all the time. Run fine for a few minutes and quit for a while then start again.

On the 450 this fan is located in the rear of a narrow compartment with the pump for the hydraulic jacks mounted in front of it. After removing the pump I found that the many looms of wires and hoses were routed right against the end of the fan motor thus not allowing any air to cool the motor. The motor would heat up and kick the thermal protection, then cool down and come back on until it got hot again. This caused the motor to fail and had to be replaced,

Just a FYI removing this fan is not fun, a real PIA. There are 12 screws holding a canvas bellows to the front of the fan and access is limited to say the least. But it can be done.

When reinstalled I routed the looms of wire and hoses above the back side of the fan under the inverters allowing more air flow. Careful not to block the vents to the inverters.

I would recommend all to check the motor and make sure that there is sufficient air space near to motor before you have this problem. Just another thing on the list to check.

Looking forward to WOG !
