I just wrap the nozzle with an old shop rag to make it airtight.. (Yes, the air can still escape through the rag- even when "tight") I usually will bungee it into the opening and do the windshield. Even at the truck pumps, it always shuts off- usually with a drip or two, but never a bath.

I do similar to what Shane does. I use the rags outs of the dispenser at the fuel island. I stuff loosely wadded up rags (about 3 or 4) around the nozzle and I open up the fill pipe on the other side of the bus to release the pressure but don't take the cap completely off, just almost off. I have never had an issue.
