Caterpillar 3208 Solutions This sub-forum is hosted by Mike Hohnstein who has been at this kind of thing for 50+ years now, guess I'm addicted. The saga has been all about progressively larger shop space since then. Honestly, never wanted to get into the CAT 3208's that were originally considered to be a throwaway engine but that's all that works in a FC in my world. Same thing with my Ford toter, that came with a NA, too much effort to hang in a 6, so been at it with the CAT V-8 for 20 years now. In reality you can get excellent life out of a CAT 3208 if it's built correctly. Post your questions about the CAT 3208 engines here and Mike will try to help you out. |

I'm looking to replace the cruise control on my 3208 na. Any recommendation on model and manufacturer? How big a deal is it to replace? I will probably have it done but would like to know whats involved.

This is what I used on our FC. It is still available just google it. It appears to be cheaper today.
I replaced the vacuum operated unit on our FC35 in 2007. I purchased a Rostra Ultracruise from M&R Electronics 989-760-2949 in Saginaw. Current price is $285.00 I used a signal generator that goes in series with the speedometer cable. This unit has worked flawlessly since then for over 40.000 miles. If you have the old vacuum unit and it does not work you might check the switch that is hooked to the brake pedal to turn the unit off when the brake is activated. When I attempted to use this switch to deactivate the new unit I found it was wired NC and would only have allowed the cruise on when the pedal was depressed. By this time I had installed the new unit and wired it to the Air/Brake switch as recommended in the installation. Again I highly recommend this unit __________________ Lucas Willemse Paramount, CA 1995 WB 42 1980 FC Sold

Tom, I actually had a copy of the invoice. I think it took extra parts such as a control switch assembly but I cannot find any more information.

Mount the unit next to the battery box, run the control cable up to the underside side of the throttle pedal.
