I took the rad to the rad shop today,he thinks he can patch it up and hes cleaning the CAC in his hot tub too.
Its dirty.
Back at the warehouse i did some welding and some air line work, while doing the air lines i noticed a line on a fitting.
A line? or a crack?

sure enough its a cracked fitting, and i found a few more, factory mistakes, over tighten and the nut will crack.
I need to buy an assortment of ferrules and nuts and the little inserts,i have been looking but no joy.
So now i have to check every fitting,i bet this allegro had air leaks all over the place...

Yesterday was the first day in a week without wind,i needed to weld the panhard bar mount in place but welding in the wind is not a great idea.
I got it welded in yesterday and i welded the lower shock mounts in too.
Then i mounted the brake relay valve for the steer axle and started hooking up air lines.
Thats when i found the cracked fittings.
But some air lines have been run,i will get some paint today and inspect the fittings and paint the good fittings so i know which ones i have inspected.
then its on to fixing the cracked ones.
In my pile of parts i have new HWH hydraulic hoses,if they are ling enough i will use them on the jacks, then i can mount the pump and controls.
I need a drive line next,i may have to bite the bullet and go new.

This is a very cool project Randy, looking forward to more! I cant wait to see your before and after impressions of the chassis and driveline. That is such a vast improvement in all areas over the old chassis. (not to mention the serviceability of parts)

Grasshopper is here and today we went to my buddys junkyard in Albany Ga.
I was looking for drive line parts,i need 2 shafts that will equal 10' total, plus a center hanger bearing and yokes etc.
After a few hours of looking and measuring we found enough stuff to build a driveline.
One shaft needs to be cut down and rewelded.
we do all of that right here in house.
Pics tomorrow.

I pass a private school with a brand new All American. Looks good running around. Makes me think what a awesome chassis that be for an FC.

Today i had some stuff to do in the house, once that was behind me i got the driveshafts all figured out.
So it takes 2 shafts, and a carrier or center support bearing.
One shaft has to be shortened and the splined end for the center support installed in the short shaft.
That splined end had to be cut out of another shaft,it was about 2 feet long and had been cut off with a torch.
All i needed was the splined end and yoke and center bearing.
Once that stuff was removed the shaft went into the old lathe i have and i started to cut the weld and the end of the tube off to get the spline out.
These drivelines are military surplus, heavy and the steel is harder than supermans head.
My old flat belt lathe is slow and so was the cutting, but we worried the splined end out and figured the length we needed by bolting the shafts into the chassis.
no need to screw this up,slow and steady.

The shaft is cut,the splined end is ready,i need to debur the open end of the shaft and press all that together making sure the yokes are lined up and then it all goes back in the lathe for checking the runout.
Once we know its straight we weld it up.
Then it all goes into the chassis and we figure out the angles required to not have a vibration.
Then mount the center bearing and that job will be done.
Video tomorrow.

Yes,U joint phasing is a real concern.
But its easy to address if your paying attention at this stage of the project.
I will show that in the video today.
