Default Low Fuel Racor. Hot engine

Running hot today with ambient temperature 80 degrees. Both oil and coolant are running high temp. About 195 coolant and 235. Pyrometer reading about 200. Have changed the filters several times. I’m wondering if I might have a bad lift pump. The Racor is not full to the top when I open it. On the road so may be slow to respond. Limping along at 55mph in west Texas near Odessa.

I might be jumping the gun on the fuel issue, but my first step with the low Racor level would be capping the fitting for the restriction line to the dash gauge. I don't know that an air leak in the fuel system would cause an overheat condition but it is a good place to start.

One may not have anything to do with the other. I can’t figure out why it’s struggling today.

I could definitely see the air leak causing a power loss issue, check out that restriction line and lets go from there.

Do the temperatures drop if you have the fan override switch on?

Peak temperatures of 195 coolant and 235 oil don't sound too unusual to me... unless those temperatures are as low as they go even with the engine fan running at high speed.

Edit: What Boost Pressures are you seeing?

Do you have an electric fuel pump between the racor and the tank? If so you may have an air leak between the pump and the tank. If the pumps running and there is a leak past the pump, you would have diesel dripping. Also, you could have a leak in the tank on the pickup tube. One way to check is to put a clear plastic filter in the line before the pump and look for air/bubbles. If you suspect the tank, get a long piece of hose and feed the electric pump from a 5 gallon can.

Steady headwind for second day in a row. 20-25mph with gusts up to 35. Definitely not helping.

John, I’ve got good boost. About 15-18. My fan only runs at one speed which I believe is high. Those temps stay steady as long as I keep my foot out of it. We’re making slow but steady progress.

No electric fuel pump.
