Default A Kat 4 My BIRD ! Bird Boats

I've been looking for a suitable boat to have around for those days when, out on the water is the only place to be

I've had and old Folbot kayak for decades and she's about had it, headed to ebay soon.

There are several choices but I like this little number.

http://www.smartkat.org.uk/

They are not built in the UK they just had a good web site. I think they are made in Germany, Austria maybe Australia I don't think I ever found where they are made, not sure really.

This boat is hard to find here in the US. If anybody can find any dealers in the US let me know. From I what I found new they are around $6000.

Ya get what ya pay for???

Boat specifications:
Length 4.2 M
Beam 2.1 M
Displacement 42 Kgs
Sail Area 10 m2
Total Height 5.8 M
Speed – Certified 11-16 knots
Optional motor – 3HP, capable of 12 knots

Not bad for boat in a bag, well 2 bags.

Here's the main website for them:

They've also got a forum to look around on.

There's your smart Kat!

Seriously though, I'd want to sail a smartkat before I bought one. I grew up sailing stuff, including Hobie cats; and those inflatable pontoons make me wonder how well she'll truly "sail". That's the fun of a cat is flying a hull.

Well that's the beauty in it. It does fit in the bay where an 18' Prindle won't!You can also put a 3 hp motor on it and it will go 12 knots.
An old out shape Key Rat can handle it alone. Just big enough for two and a cooler.
I really like the Hobie party boats. 16' Getaway and 14' Wave, tons of fun, The getaway has built in Beverage Coolers in the Hulls, that was nearly enough to get me to buy one. Igloo should build a boat How would you stuff one into a 24' car trailer? On top?
First two years of College had to do Athletics, lots of choices, took two years of Sailing and Scuba. Sailed out of Coconut Grove next to Monty's Conch in '75 & '76
Those are Campfire stories.
