Default Black exhaust!

Started the genny up this morning, first time for months, it's running, but rough, with lots of black exhaust smoke. Is this indicative of a bad fuel filter? On the way to Q, haven't had time to trouble-shoot yet. Also just noticed the inverters are switching from charging to inverting & back. Genny is supplying power, but would like to get it fixed before getting to Q.

Any advice appreciated!

Black smoke is too much fuel or not enough air. Possibly restricted air as in clogged air filter or an injector injecting too much fuel .

Thanks, Harold. I replaced the air filter in the spring but I'll check it this evening. Actually, as I write this, the generator smoothed out & smoke stopped, now just an occasional puff. I'll let it run a bit & see what happens...

Could have been an injector that just needed some run time .

Check for a critter nest in the air filter intake hose too .

Is the inverter still acting up ?

My first thought was air filter. Since it seems to be clearing up maybe it just needed to be run.
