Default found mobility scooter

Good ole Craigslist came through again. I found a nice scooter that was hardly used, looked brand new. It has large wheels so getting around outdoors will be easier. It is too big for use in the house, but I don't need it for that. It will be nice for getting around larger campgrounds, state/national parks, etc.

The biggest issue with these things is parts availability and parts cost. They are more than proud of the parts. The speed control is an electrical potentiometer (probably a $10 item), but they get $225 for it

Here's a pic.

Gardner, the amazing thing about those scooters is how many get thrown out.
I had the salvage and surplus contract at the VA hospital in Gainesville Fl for a few years.
I got at least a hundred scooters of all shapes and colors.
The VA gave them to our Vets and they turned in the old ones which ended up at my place.
There was really no market for them and i don't think i ever sold one, except as scrap.
The grandkids did love to come over and ride them!
I put the running gear from one into a shopping cart to use at swap meets,a self propelled shopping cart was pretty cool.

You are correct about the value of used ones. Most of them get worn out and junked. Some are almost new. This one was a Grandfathers, Grandma wanted it out of the house, so in the end it was stored pretty much unused. It really is too big for anything smaller than a major mansion anyway.
Also, Medicare will pay under the right conditions, but you need to go to an approved dealer who inspects your residence to insure it is suitable first and then supplies the scooter. So the market is lousey for used ones anyway. Medicare won't pay if it is for outdoor use though, they consider that recreational

Too bad there isn't a MSOG (Mobility Scooter Owners Group) to support these things

That's the asking price, I doubt they get that much in the end. Mine was advertised for $1700, I negotiated way less than that. I suspect I was the only one that responded. (current retail is 3K)

What i found in the Gainesville area was the VA gave them away, the churchs would give you one,and all kinds of other places would provide you with one.
Remember those adds on TV?

They almost all needed batteries too,we tried to sell them but never did sell one.
I did the shopping cart conversion and i converted a shopping mall space shuttle,it was one like sat outside and you put a quarter in it,like the horses at walmart.
The grandkids drove the heck out of it and so did i.
I still have the space shuttle body, but the running gear is long gone.
Heck, that grandkid is 19yo now,so its been a while ago..

But,on anther forum i used to be on this guy was bad sick and he had no money and nobody to give him a scooter,**** i had a dozen of them sitting around and i donated one to him,the guys on that forum donated money for batteries and shipping,i crated it up and shipped it to the guy,as a gift from his friends at the (car) forum.

I had forgotten all about that guy and the help from the forum members.

Kinda like what happens here quite often, guys helping other guys.

We had one of those scooters up on my big steel table,it would not move under its own power, but we had the charger plugged in and we were checking stuff,i was messing around with the joy stick and Glen unplugged the charger and i srove that cart right off onto the floor.
Who knew the thing would not move if the charger was plugged in?
My work tables are pretty high,so it went for a good ride before hitting the floor.
Nobody was hurt so we laughed about it..

We had those big wheelchairs too, with the big recliner seats on them, the grandkids would drive them backwards, wide open across the yard.
They never did drive them forward, weird.

Gardner, you need a 2-stroke scooter for the outdoor use!
