Default Transmission doesn’t upshift with Jake on

I have a 2000 LXi Millennium Edition. Recently I noticed a new problem. When I turn the Jake brake on, the Allison transmission downshifts to 5th properly but when I accelerate, it won’t upshift back to 6th without turning the Jake brake off at the switch. I’ve taken it to the local Allison Transmission shop, Western Branch Diesel in Ashland Virginia and they checked both the ECM AND TCM and fond them both to be good and that the problem is somewhere in the wiring harness or it’s inputs Their scanner showed a code of 66-00 and they determined the high side of the circuit is open. Additionally, we found the TCM is not seeing the throttle position or the coolant temp. So next week, we will start with those and be spending time going over the wiring schematics and pinning out the harness and inputs to find the fault. Has anyone ever had this happen? What was your finding? Looking to save some man hours tracing down this open circuit. Any ideas are appreciated.

Thanks

Randy B

I would call our new friend and Allison guru Larry down in Jax Fl.
Hes a good guy and knows his business.
Hes listed here in the files,i think its Progressive Transmissions in Jax Fl.

But,i would change the TPS if it was mine.

My jake has always been like that. When you select the Jake on it selects the transmission to 5th (on mine). If I apply throttle the actual braking stops, but the transmission remains selected to 5th. Before I had my transmission reprogrammed to 5th, it used to be 4th with the Jake, it acted the same.
I thought it was normal.

Good news. We have resolved the problem. The data line between the ECM and the TCM had rubbed against the new hydraulic lines I had replaced. It had rubbed and broke the two data lines and a third wire. The mechanic repaired the break and all is well. The break was next to the transmission. Still not sure what the third wire was but it’s repaired too. Lesson learned for me is for me to do a quality check after a repair even if I had the repair done by a qualified mechanic. A quick check to ensure nothing was touching or rubbing would have saved me some time and money.
Thanks for everyone’s input.

Thanks Mike, I'll make it a "Sticky Thread" to (hopefully) make it easier to find.

Peter Haggins, I suggest you have your coach checked. You may have the same data lines broken. Those are also the data lines that feed the transmission the throttle position and engine temperature, both of which impact your transmission shifting. Without this data, your transmission could be shifting hard or at the wrong time. If you do, let us know what you find.
Good luck,
Randy B

Mine is the same as Peter’s. And thought it was normal, also. I need to do some checking. Thanks for the update.
