Default Voltage Regulator

I just pulled my alternator. It is supposed to have an internal voltage regulator but I don't see it. In addition to the positive and ground terminals, it has two additional terminals with small gauge wires going to them. Do these lead to an external voltage regulator? If not what are the two small wires for?

It is a Delco 21SI, part no. 1117920.

Default SERVICE MANUAL 21-SI Alternator

Rich, a link to the Delco 21-SI service manual may be informative.

Thanks David and Dick. Turns out these are just auxiliary terminals. I traced one of the wires to the rear ignition switch.

Found a reman alternator in stock in Burnaby so I am off to reinstall it.

If you are rebuilding your alternator you should replace the trio diode and voltage regulator at the same time. Most shops will replace the voltage regulator but not the trio diode.

Hish, I bought a reman off the shelf and traded in my core. I have no idea what they replaced in the reman.

Most of the rebuilders are cheap they want to do the minimum, the trio diode is an expensive part so they try to do without replacing it. Hopefully you got a good rebuilder. As I recall the voltage regulator is about $15.00 and trio diode $25.00-$35.00.
