Spring is definitely on the way...on Friday, Feb 1, I saw an Armadillo at approx. 3 PM on the centerline of Old St James Road and Farrar Drive in my hometown of Rolla, Missouri. Armadillos are nocturnal creatures but this one was out at mid-day in bright sunlight licking the salt from the roadway, oblivious to the traffic which had backed-up watching him (or her).

In recent years since the polar ice caps have began to recede, the Armadillo has been populating our area in south central Missouri however I normally do not see live Armadillos...just dead ones on the centerline or on the edge of the roadway. Just 12 hours previous to this sighting, the temperature had been -2 degrees F.

I predict an early spring.

In Austin, the first pampered bluebonnets are blooming early on the UT Mall, and friends report sighting the first indian paintbrush.
