Default '83 FC 3208 fan noise

Merry Christmas!

We've changed the belts on our '83 FC 3208, driven it for a bit and now have a problem with the fan hitting the shroud at the top. The noise goes away if you rev the engine but as soon as you let off of the accelerator the fan starts making the noise again. Not sure what to look at next. Bearings going bad, etc.
Any suggestions?

The fan travels upward when taking out the slack of the belts, guessing it's touching
@ 12'0 clock, shorter belt will locate the fan more closely to center of shroud. Maybe.

And sometimes the shroud will adjust up,but shorter belts are the key.

Yay! Changing belts again. Sounds like more fun.
Thanks y'all.

I had the same issue once. There is not much clearance for the fan. In addition to proper size belts, make sure the main pulley carriage is roughly centered in the shroud before tightening the other belts first. Then do the main fan pulley carriage adjustment last.

I was thinking motor mounts as a possibility but the noise goes away when the engine is under a load. Are we sure the fan hits the top of the shroud and not the bottom ?
