I did a little googling and found that most toilet rings are petroleum based. I still use a bit in wood screws - unused, of course.

Hmm, petroleum wax, that'd be paraffin wax. I think that's what snow skiiers, surfers, and home canners use. Wikipedia mentions it as a lubricant, maybe it is the wax to use for unsticking threaded fasteners? Beeswax would be stickier and make a better toilet ring, I would think.

I've used kerosene, also called paraffin, as a penetrant. And wax as a fuel (candle). In this I see the connectedness of all things dinosaur.
