Caterpillar 3208 Solutions This sub-forum is hosted by Mike Hohnstein who has been at this kind of thing for 50+ years now, guess I'm addicted. The saga has been all about progressively larger shop space since then. Honestly, never wanted to get into the CAT 3208's that were originally considered to be a throwaway engine but that's all that works in a FC in my world. Same thing with my Ford toter, that came with a NA, too much effort to hang in a 6, so been at it with the CAT V-8 for 20 years now. In reality you can get excellent life out of a CAT 3208 if it's built correctly. Post your questions about the CAT 3208 engines here and Mike will try to help you out.

Default Water-Methanol injection-pros cons

Mike how’s your Water-Methanol injection working any negatives to report ?
I’ve read a bit on some of the problems possible, rust in the intake, turbo is that really a issue ? Seems like a good system and a great mod for adding power reducing engine temps and lowering strain on the engine?
Or am I completely wrong ?
I was looking at the system I think you added the Snow Performance set up.

Engine was way over fueled to start, even with huge custom cac egt's were excessive. Using blue windshield anti freeze was able to use all the power available with out melting down, noticeably reduced smoke.
However the volume of liquid required for hwy use is problematic for most, in this case a 40 gallon tank was slung under chassis behind the front axle rear of the levelers. Needed a refill @ 1800 miles west bound. Not really what the average 'Birder' needs to mess with.
I'll be detuning the engine to a more usable level so one can watch the scenery rather than the gages.
On the other hand maybe not;

Great video, I’m sure rv racing would draw huge crowds at fmca and Quartzite.

You think a stock 3208TA 300hp would drink the same amount ?

I’m guessing you can turn the system on and off ?

Any negatives to report aside from drinking to much ?

Negatives would result is using straight well water, some truckers use it for a bit of extra mileage. Bought a 55 drum of blue window washer fluid for about 1.90 a gallon. Don't care if I'm first up the mountain anymore. Had a injection system on a 400" small block chebbby with a stick trans that was hopped up, big camper towing race car in a 22' box. Kept the pinging down, however in service it was the worst mileage I ever recorded, like 3.5, one trip out west, engine was out and truck sold, crew cab 454 was in.
