Default Spare tire

So iam fainlly getting the new hankooks. That was a issue. But was thinking on keeping a old tire for a spare. So would a steel wheel or the aluminum wheel. I can get steel for 20.00 and 195.00 for the aluminum 22.5. Is the aluminum that much lighter?

Consider perhaps keeping one tire (tire only) stored as a spare. It's easy to handle and store compared to a mounted tire & wheel. I'd wrap it or bag it to protect from ozone/uv.

I'm calling a service truck to change the tire anyway...they are generally equipped to mount tires to a wheel. The issue that can arise is getting a tire of proper size/rating out to you in a reasonable time & price. If you have one onboard...the issue is moot.

The lug nuts are different between steels and alum. wheels.
Be careful mixing the wheels, you will need lug nuts too.

Its easy to mount a tire on a wheel.
Its easy to remove a tire from a wheel.
I do it and leave the wheels on the coach, idf its an outside rear, tag or steer.
Car tires are harder to do then bus tires.

Studs are different as well, ones for steel can be to short for aluminum.

Rodney, I carried a tire off the rim for years, wrapped it in a blanket then agin with a blue trap. I had it on the roof of the FC, figuring if I had a flat a road tire service could get her down. I don't think it is worth putting it on the rim with the trouble it is hauling it around. Just my opinion. KC and Mike Batista had made a good spare carrier mounted in the rear receiver. Sort of looked like a confidential kit on their bus. I do have a spare aluminium rim for $100 if you want it.
