Default Weather strip

I just had to do my BMC door weatherstripping and got some D profile from Tim Gunter at Suncoast which is about 1/2 inch across and about 1/2 inch thick with an air pocket inside the "D". You peel off the tape stuff on the flat part and it is self stick and you better get it on right because if you miss it, ain't comin off. I just did it a few days ago and it works great!. The door seals better than ever, fits tightly and seals snugly when closed.

I don't know if Wanderloges are the same, but this stuff worked well for me.

Folks,

Just checking in on this thread. I have a FC and the recent downpour from Hurricane Irene convinced me it was time to replace the door seal.

I peeled off a chunk of the 28 year old original and have brought it around to the auto parts stores and hardware stores in little Swanton VT. Nothing like it. It is rubber, similar but not exactly the same shape as Don's in this thread.

One question is how best to prepare the surface for new tape? Should I wire brush it to bare metal? Will that invite rust? There is adheasive and sometimes small pieces of rubber remaining from the original..

Anyone else replaced the door gasket on a FC? Is the consensus that the closed cell D shaped foam stuff is OK?

I'm going to be near a Lowes tomorrow...

Thanks in Advance!

We're making this way too easy. Let's get David Brady to fire up his CAD for a custom solution. A miniature air seal maybe

I replaced my seal, which looked like the one Don had on his door. Mine was really flat and not doing the job. Never had any water issues but you could hear the wind noise, when going down the road. I replaced it with the exact same kind of seal Don tried, but was unsuccesful with. I got mine from Lowes or some place lke that. I don't have the locking issues that Don has either. My door closed easily, never leaks water, and the wind doesn't whistle anymore.

I think that Fred Hulse found some of the original stuff, and may have bought more than he needed. By that point I had found a good solution:

As I posted earlier, Parliament has the Blue Bird double seal. I used it and it is much better than the PO's attempt to use foam seal.

Regarding door closing difficulty, ours needed to be slammed with a quarterback's force. I finally found the post was about 3/16" higher than the latch. Works beautifully now. I also found out about the double click and set it for that. Check those out, guys.
