Bill,
Acording to the folks on the phone when ordering, the phone software is capable of supporting teathering, but the feature it is not yet enabled. Also, my super geek friend at work, who owns a Droid, concurs.

Gardner,

I too have a verizon android. Get an app called PDANET. It has a 2 week free trial, then it costs $30. It works great for tethering. I run both my laptop and Lucies (one at a time) with it. All you need is the $30/month data plan from Verizon. Verizon doesn't approve (shhhhh don't tell).

Wow! I assumed the lack of compatibility meant it was an old model, but that's not the case. I didn't even check compatibility with my Cradlepoint last month when I signed up for Verizon, on the assumption that new ones would almost automatically be compatible. Appears I got lucky - got a Pantech UMW190 at Costco, and it is compatible.

Default internet

I recently purchased an Android from Verizon to replace the el-cheapo pay-by-the-minute cellphone I have been using for the past several years. I am enjoying the totally useless and very entertaining apps on the new phone. After reading about the PDANET tethering software, I downloaded the trial software and tried it out. Worked great! Very quick on the 'net and easy to install. At present, the full version costs $18.95 (one-time purchase), which eliminates the $30.00 per month fee from Verizon. Seems like a great deal!

My company has about 15 cells and we are constantly shopping for "best deal" - - we have used Verizon, Alltel (now Verizon), At&T and now Sprint!! Have used 'em all - - all over lower 48 with no great difference - better or worse - in any.
Right now using air card in Arcata, CA.

Have used Verizon, AT&T and now Sprint air cards. Sprint is the worst - - verizon the best in my opinion. Got frustrated with slow hookup this am, so I went to McDonald's - a mile away - paid 68 cents for a senior cup of coffee and used their WiFi for about an hour. I plan to do that again in slow xmission, etc. areas.

Default internet on the road

Verizon - been all over the west (almost) to Washington, Oregon, California and nearly all states in between. Not once have I had a problem connecting with Verizon. Using an HP netbook with Verizon. Very happy.
