Default Power Tech Melts Wiring

We were traveling from Surfside, SC to Charleston SC running the generator and air conditioners. The Generator shut down about 15 miles from Charleston, after reaching the campground, inspection showed the cooling fan motor wiring harness was completly melted. I thought the motor had locked up and the wiring had burnt up, but the motor and fan spin freely. I am thinking of replacing the wiring and see what happens. The wires show signs of being repaired before with inline crimp butt connectors. I'm open for suggestions.
Thanks

Poor connections can generate a lot of heat, however I would check things throrughly before trying to run the motor. It would be a shame to damage the gennie or other wireing for a test run.

I have a wiring diagram for the Power Tec cooling fan motor if you need it. Mine is 15kw, I suspect most are the same for the cooling fan.

on a trip to the races in utah we were caravaning with another bird, his gennie would run for an hour and then overheat and shut down,by the time we stopped and checked it out the fan would run fine, and so would the genny.
we chased this problem all day going across texas in 100 degree temps.
during a fuel stop the genny was running and the fan working, while we were standing next to the coach the fan stopped, the bearings in the motor were locking up and making the engine overheat. after the fan motor cooled down for less than 5 minutes it worked fine..
we replaced the fan motor and fixed the problem.

It is probably a 208 volt motor,
availble from Grainger, Grainger also has the entire fan squirrel cage

Charlie,

When we changed my FC genset fan over to a downdraft, we just took the part numbers off of Randy's fan assembly and ordered those, take a look at this picture on my web site and see if this similar to yours.

Leroy,
On the Fan Drawing does it show a fuse or breaker for the power to the fan (L-1 and L-3 on mine) , with my volt meter connected to these leads I only show 3 volts but the coach is showing full power with the generator running
Thanks.

Charlie,

Seems like you should have 110 volts on each leg
