Unless of course that lifting-eye bolt is loose or missing. Then it's like 3 gal/100 miles.

I only included this as a reminder because more than 1 person has spent hundreds of dollars before they found this. If you have an 8V, tighten these before they vibrate out. I think I remember that these may have been loosened during the build to make room to fit the alternator and then never retightened.

1987 8V92 mechanical engine...uses about a quart every 800 miles.

4 ounces per 100 mile or about 20 ounces per 100 gallons of fuel. That aint bad.

Hopefully you already know this but unlike 2 cycle engines used in outboard motors, dirt bikes, weed eaters, etc. Detroit 2 stroke engines don’t mix or inject oil with the fuel. The Detroit Diesel 2 stroke engines have an oil pan and lubricate the engine much like a 4 stroke gas or diesel engine.
