Default 12.5kw Perkins - Starts and runs but no fuel pump or fan

Hey there everyone. Just replaced the starter on my Perkins. It starts and runs, but only if I hold the throttle open.

My bird has some modifications that were made to the start process by the prior owner. One is a switch inside the coach on the dash that when flipped, it powers the fuel pump and the starter. If left on, the engine runs fine. But once turned off it shuts down.

The second modification is a start / kill switch in the transfer box. Maybe original and just replaced, not sure. This switch disables everything.

Is there some kind of relay somewhere that should take over once the starter has been cranked and the motor is running? My thought is that this is why the fuel pump does not keep going and the fan does not come on like it should.

When the generator starts making power it uses ac to open a relay that disengages the starter and hold the fuel solenoid open. Read through this manual from the data base. It explains how the relays work.

Thanks so much for the technical resource!! I looked in the files directory, but did not see this.

Where would that relay most commonly be found do you think?

The relays are in the control box in the generator tray.
