Bouncing Ammeter on 1997 WB S60

1 second hang time at 0 and another second to jump up to 180 and back to zero for another second rest there. Chassis Volt gauge moves between roughly 14 and 16. House AC voltage gauge moves in lock step with the others. That's another thread in and of itself. Voltage on the AC side when plugged into shore power only shows 90v.

One interesting thing to note... We stopped at the Blue Beacon on the way home and had the big girl cleaned up before we brought it home for the Mrs to see. When we hopped back in the coach and drove out on Rt 15, my buddy noticed that the gauge was barely bouncing at all. The more it dried out, the wilder the swings got, back to 180A.

Yes, I know... Check connections and grounds. The water changing things makes me think that it is more likely a ground issue.

Any thoughts?

Chris, Similar issue last year and it was the ground at the alternator. The cable was almost completely gone. See pic. Regulator toasted. Replaced alternator, cable and added another ground to chassis and all was good again.

Many of us have added a grounding wire from the back of alternator to a good point on the chassis. The alternator is grounded through the the bracketry and this can become problematic.

Wiggly connections to an alternator fry its voltage regulator more than anything.

That ac shore power problem may be a grounding problem also. Was on mine.
