Question Thinking about the Blue Ridge Parkway this weekend

I was thinking about the Blue Ridge Parkway this weekend. Does anyone know a good place to stay?

It's a LONG road. Maybe you should narrow it down a little!

Maybe something North, South and someplace in the middle?
That way I could play it by ear, and see how it goes???

I'm just not much of a fan of those campgrounds where your neighbors are 10 feet away. So I thought I'd ask, and maybe some folks who are familiar with the Parkway will chime in??? I hope

I've been on the parkway a couple of times. I have stayed at Campfire Lodgings north of Asheville several times over the years. https://www.campfirelodgings.com/ By far one of my favorite places, but getting a spot this late would be impossible. They are always booked up way in advance. Besides I have never had anything but one of the premium sites which are not side by side but end to end to take advantage of the views, which are amazing.

With views like that you can't go wrong. Anyway, it isn't too late to plan for next year. Shenandoah N.P. is a nice place on the other end, but again the same problem may arise on timing of reservations.

I would expect LOTS of traffic unless the leaves have already dropped.

Still lots of leaves.
Weekends are busy.
Many campgrounds closed as of Nov 1.
Parkway travel is for a toad, not a Bus.

I decided to put the Blue Ridge off until next year, It's a bit to much driving for a long weekend trip and it sounds like it needs a bit more planning than the last minute.

So I took the drive around Lake Michigan instead, I stayed at Platte River Camp Grounds (great for easy day hikes). Had the place pretty much to myself. Also made a stop in Sault Ste Marrie. I could have gone a few weeks earlier, and it would have been more colorful but then it probably wouldn't have been nearly as quite? (not sure about that). Almost every rest stop was completely empty.

Anyway, great trip, very pretty country but keep in mind it's bear county, and Canada doesn't allow guns so you'll have to declare them and check them at the border (do not try to hide them, that could get you in serious trouble). Also keep in mind that both the upper peninsula and northern Michigan in general are very remote in places so make sure you have a few spares and tools ect. just in case.

Some towns on the route are tour friendly but many towns just don't see enough traffic i guess. So you'll have to plan your stops carefully.

Terry,
Don't worry too much about the precautions of the 'BRP not for buses'!!!,
I have driven it twice in my FC35, in both directions... Only problem I had was, when heading south I had to get off, due to a forest fire...
I have also seen 40+ foot Prevost on it too!!!
