Default Any AquaHot experts lingering in Florida?

My intermittent running issues with my AquaHot continue. I just replaced the fuel nozzle, but no cure. It works on occasion for a while, then won't start. If it decides to fire at some future time it spews smoke as it burns off the excess fuel that has built up. Some other observations;
* Insides look like new (makes me wonder if it ever worked for the PO)
* Thermostats check out
* Ignition sparked on electrodes when I did that check a while ago.
* Motor runs and if it doesn't light dash switch shuts off while motor runs for another few minutes.

If there were an AH person down here I would be glad to hire you to diagnose it. Your place or mine!!

From listening to Roger Berke I've learned there are several things that can cause a 'no start' situation. I fixed mine recently by replacing the coil. It would work fine for anywhere from three cycles up to fifty or more and then misfire. Roger always says to test the coil 100 times and if it fails to spark just once replace it. Having said all this I would call Roger and get his take on things and possibly a recommendation for a tech in Florida. Roger is very generous with his time and will try to help you. Here's his info

Hi Corey, I have had to do a lot of stuff to my A/H. One thing that happened to me twice now is that the switch on the dash has worked but not properly. If the unit does not get a positive voltage when you flip the switch it will not fire. Just from use on-off-on-off the switch gets weak, I think, when I replace the dash switch the unit fires right up. Also I can’t help wonder if when I equalize the batteries if the high voltage causes the switch become weak? On my rig when I turn off the master to the batteries, the A/H switch still has power. I have read somewhere in the A/H literature that there is a high and low voltage fault.

Fire, fuel and air and it has to burn.

One question. When it does not fire and the motor is running is there a steady stream of air exiting the exhaust pipe?

Yes, there is air coming out the pipe and the motor is running.

I just took it apart again (about the tenth time) as is not firing. I disconnected the fuel pump and no spark! I jumpered the switch, so it's not the dash switch.

Maybe the coil, maybe the control box? How do you test the coil separately?

Boy. Intermittent problems are miserable. I had one that turned out to be a solder joint on the board.
It could be:
Ideas--
The coil. I do not know how to test.
Bad relay on the board. I do not know how to test.
Loose plug wire.
Bad ground.
Bad solder joint on the board.

You can nspect the board with a mag glass and carefully press against the parts for loose joints.

I have a spare box for Webasto DBW 2010 you can borrow to plug up and see if that solves it. Just return it when you isolate the problem. The box is tall green.

Leroy,

Thanks for the advice and the offer. My box is silver, I'll check the numbers tomorrow. Now the board part confuses me. To my knowledge the only board would be inside the silver box and that's sealed. A while ago I called Aqua hot and they said mine just has this one box.

See if the box is 287.962. From memory now, don't hold me to it.
If it is the same box you can get it apart like this.

Slide a knife blade between the black plug housing and the silver box carefully all around. There are small locking detents that hold it together. Once released you can slide the box off. It is tight. The two little rivit looking things on the side only fill holes. I just re sealed my edges with silicone after I repaired it and re assembled.. That guarantees no leaks.

If it is not the same box number, all bets are off.

I went through all the AQ tests and it's looking like a bad coil. I removed the large plug on the control box and DC jumped the coil as is recommended in the repair manual with no sparky! I have emailed AH tech to see if they can test my coil before I spend the nearly $500 they want for a new one.
