Ah, OK. I did not realize there was an attempt to spin the starter/engine.

We've had the gennie shut down 3 times over the past coupla years after a couple hundred miles using gen to run a/c while driving. In all 3 cases temp was over 90 - - closer to 95 degrees or higher. The last time was a couple of weeks ago when we dropped our 97 37' BMC off at Coachcraft in Columbus, GA, Kenny Rogers was in our unit when it happened and said that it was pretty normal cuz not enuff air circulation for cooling while standing still. We now carry a Honda 3000 generator (30 amps) in bay for extended dry camping in heat so we can keep 1 unit running - - - at least. about 75 lbs with a ramp I made to wheel it in and out of bay along with auxiliary fuel tank.
Our gennie runs off the house batteries.
Had to replace gennie fuel filter last year in Park City, Utah.

Steve,

Do you have an Auto Generator Panel on the Drivers left consol?

On my 1997, 37foot, BMC just aft of the Safeline panel is a panel labeled Auto Gen. It also has an momentary auxillary bat switch. I believe that ties the house batteries to the generator to allow you to start the Generator in case of a bad generator battery. That could provide reassurance that all is well with the generator if it starts.

However, based on your description of what it is doing I would bet your generator battery is bad and should be replaced.

Randy - who's John?

Brad - yes, but when I tried it (and the auto start switch above it), they both seemed to be locked in the off position....does the ignition have to be on for them to work?? ....or something else turned on?

On mine, I think the 12 volt master switch should be on. Key is not required. Just push "Aux Bat" button down towards passenger side and you can hear the relay engage. It is a momentary switch so you have hold it down.

No dice Brad. I just got back to the MH, as my departure was delayed until tomorrow. Tried to push down on both auto start and the gen aux rocker switches and they are locked solid. Ignition and 12v master switches make no difference. Could there be something else that locks those switches?

Whoops....got the aux switch to work. Looks like there was some foreign material around the switch (previous spill or ???). Scraped/dug it out/off, pushed hard enough to break it, and it moved. Feels free now, and I can hear the relay clunk. Auto start still frozen, but I'm not worried about that now.

Thanks again

OK, great!!

Did you try to start the genny?

If you hold the "Aux Batt" momentary switch down does the genny start now after the normal pre-heat and start buttons are used?

Just curious.

Didn't get a chance to try it this am before I left, but the battery was holding enough to start it on it's own last night. We'll see how it is on Sat when I get back. I think I'll wait to change out the battery so I can determine if the switch is operational.....
